My annual “Get Fit For Summer” campaign is in full swing – I am running a charity 10K on Sunday (eek)! Now of course I like to do good work and raise money for charidee as much as the next person, but I happily confess it is not my main motivation. Vanity and weight loss are the driving goals behind my new running fad. As I am unable to afford the healthy meals delivered to my door option (GMTV presenter Kate Garraway is my thinspiration of the week), exercise seems to be my only other option.

I have a makeup dilemma though for the run – how much makeup is acceptable when participating in such events? I am not planning on working out in full makeup like MAC covergirl Dita von Teese, but it is a major local event, and I am hoping to impress a potential suitor who may be watching, so some beauty preparation is definitely necessary.

Planning my makeup is taking almost as much time as choosing my outfit. Two deliveries from Sweaty Betty and I think I have the gear sorted, so I am testing out a couple of different makeup combos while training for the next few days…

I have already started smothering on St Tropez Every Day body lotion to brighten up my grey limbs. I have some Bare Escencuals mineral wholesale makeup in stock and I think a little of that as foundation might just be perfect. It looks really natural, hides imperfections brilliantly and will not melt. Eyelash extensions might be overdoing it so am trying out a variety of coloured mascaras (Clarins and Lancome, both waterproof). I don’t see how I can get away with much more than that without looking like a clown.

Wish me luck!

I wrote a while back about my weight loss goals (fantasies more like, as it turns out for now). In September 2009, I had decided to set myself a target of losing 10 pounds in quite a short space of time, due to up and coming events where I wanted to look my best. The short story is that now, 2 months later, I am around the same weight as I was at the start. The in-between story is that I did in fact at one point lose 7 pounds within about 3 weeks, which I think was totally brilliant! However then I got smug and my healthy eating regime slipped. Funny how the weight that took ages to come off, just piles on again in no time.

As someone who works in the beauty industry, I think that people have an expectation about my appearance. Luckily I have always been on the slim side of average, and I am also one of those people who starts to shrink at the first sign of stress, anxiety, and particularly heartbreak. The past few years have thrown enough of all of those at me to ensure that I have not had to worry about my waistline for quite some time. But now that I am in a happier place, so are the extra inches, and it seems that they just do not want to leave the cosy recesses of my muffin top.

I have come to the conclusion that it seems to be an age factor that makes the body less compliant to the fail-safe old tricks for speedy slimming that never used to let me down. Even though the years may be marching on, I do not think that I am too old to have to hide my upper arms or wear baggy tops just yet, so I have decided that more serious measures are called for. Yep, I have decided to beat the January rush and sign up for the local gym (on a free trial basis of course).

A confession though, I also have been guiltily checking out the comprehensive new slimming products website Slimming.com, who seem to have got just about every weight loss angle covered for the lazy slimmer. I will be checking anything out very carefully before I buy, but if I do decide to cheat a little I will definitely report back!

It is Sunday night and my diet is starting in the morning. It is my birthday in a couple of weeks and I am trying to lose a few pounds. I have this thing about birthdays, where I think the year ahead will be better if I get off to a good start. A bit like 1 January (the less said about that the better).

I do have a target weight in mind, but sadly I have probably left it a little late to lose 10lbs in 17 days. So 7lbs is my goal. I know that if I can make it through the first few days then by later this week I should be less bloated, a couple of pounds lighter, and probably feeling a bit smug. Although in my case, pride comes before a biscuit.

My big incentive, one which I am hoping will tip the scales in my favour, is a trip to Paris in November. It is partly business, as I will be visiting several wholesale cosmetics customers while I am there, but mostly pleasure…we will be catching up with friends in a few favourite haunts like Stolly’s and Express Bar, and checking out the latest Parisien scene with our personal tour guide, my old beau Mark (aka Paris man). So all the better to look my best, oui?
