There are loads of cashback sites available now, but I joined this one because it was recommended at the Money Saving Expert website (Martin Lewis is my hero!)

For anyone not familiar with how it works, a cash back site contains hundreds or thousands of different retailers, most of which are high street names that you are familiar with and may already shop with (M&S, Boots, Vodafone, Tesco, and lots of clothing retailers etc, insurance companies, credit cards companies etc. If there is anything at all that you may be thinking of purchasing or signing up for online, just click through to the retailer using the cashback site, and you will receive cashback on your purchase.

The cashback amounts vary from around 5% of the cost of your purchase, to much larger amounts e.g. £100 or more is not uncommon if you are signing up to a new mobile phone deal or credit card. The cashback is not taken off your purchase straight away – you have to pay the retailer as normal and the cashback site tracks the sale. Then a few weeks later you will get the money back through the cashback site. TopCashBack pay directly into your bank account or you can get a cheque or request payment by Paypal. There is no minimum payout level so you can cash out at any time for as little or as much as you have in your cashback balance.

Survey sites are some of the most overrated and scammy work from home ideas ever invented. Usually you have to fill in loads of boring, long, questionnaires for pennies or points which it takes a thousand years to ever cash in. For that reason I won’t even try to insult you by saying that you will make much money from surveys, or get rich quick, but there are two survey sites in the UK that I use that are not a total joke, and they pay a decent rate for something that, let’s face it, a monkey could do in its sleep.

The first, Pinecone Research, I have also written a separate blog post about. They pay £3 per survey and are currently looking for mums with children aged 3 and under to conduct consumer research. Pinecone is rated on the Money Saving Expert website as probably the best survey site in the UK, but it is notoriously hard to join. At the time of writing this, they are still recruiting, and all you have to do to sign up is fill in your details at the form on their website.

The second survey site I use is YouGov, where you get between 50p and £1 for each survey. The surveys take about 5 minutes once you get the hang of them (the YouGov site says they should take about 15-20 mins but honestly? I would say that’s only if you put an awful lot of thought into your answers). They also have monthly prize draws for various cash prizes up to £1,000. You receive an email when there is a survey for you to complete, so there is no need to keep checking their website.

YouGov have interesting and topical questions that do not assume you are a total moron. The only catch with YouGov is that they only pay out when you reach £50, and there are not a great deal of surveys, but it depends on your profile. I do not think that is a problem – it is not exactly a fortune anyway but it is lovely when a cheque arrives, and I am nearly at my second payout.

PineCone Research conducts online interviews with consumers from all walks of life to obtain their opinions about new products.

The tasks that you get are top secret but are generally things like sampling new consumer products (washing powder etc) or giving your opinion on a proposed ad campaign.
