MAC Smoke Signals For Eartha Kitt

One of my favourite MAC collections in recent years was the Smoke Signals line. The inspiration behind the collection was the legendary Eartha Kitt. Eartha was in her eighties when she sadly passed away last year, but she remained a really cool lady right until the end.

Even though Eartha loved to get glammed up with full on makeup and long false eyelsahes, she had great skin which she attributed to a surprisingly simple skincare regime.

She apparently never went to bed without removing her makeup. I wish I could say the same. It is such a good habit to get in to, but one that I have never quite mastered, despite being a beauty professional. What I try to do instead is to take my makeup off early in the evening when I come home, that’s when I remember.

Eartha’s low maintenance beauty routine was to wash her face with Olay soap, followed by freshly squeezed lemon juice applied as a toner for her face. She finished with olive oil as a night cream on her face and in her hair. Which proves as a timely reminder for the credit crunched generation that even superstars do not have to spend a lot of money to look good. Although if I was a millionaire I do honestly think I would look a lot better…
