MAC Smoke Signals For Eartha Kitt

One of my favourite MAC collections in recent years was the Smoke Signals line. The inspiration behind the collection was the legendary Eartha Kitt. Eartha was in her eighties when she sadly passed away last year, but she remained a really cool lady right until the end.

Even though Eartha loved to get glammed up with full on makeup and long false eyelsahes, she had great skin which she attributed to a surprisingly simple skincare regime.

She apparently never went to bed without removing her makeup. I wish I could say the same. It is such a good habit to get in to, but one that I have never quite mastered, despite being a beauty professional. What I try to do instead is to take my makeup off early in the evening when I come home, that’s when I remember.

Eartha’s low maintenance beauty routine was to wash her face with Olay soap, followed by freshly squeezed lemon juice applied as a toner for her face. She finished with olive oil as a night cream on her face and in her hair. Which proves as a timely reminder for the credit crunched generation that even superstars do not have to spend a lot of money to look good. Although if I was a millionaire I do honestly think I would look a lot better…

Makeup For Workouts

My annual “Get Fit For Summer” campaign is in full swing – I am running a charity 10K on Sunday (eek)! Now of course I like to do good work and raise money for charidee as much as the next person, but I happily confess it is not my main motivation. Vanity and weight loss are the driving goals behind my new running fad. As I am unable to afford the healthy meals delivered to my door option (GMTV presenter Kate Garraway is my thinspiration of the week), exercise seems to be my only other option.

I have a makeup dilemma though for the run – how much makeup is acceptable when participating in such events? I am not planning on working out in full makeup like MAC covergirl Dita von Teese, but it is a major local event, and I am hoping to impress a potential suitor who may be watching, so some beauty preparation is definitely necessary.

Planning my makeup is taking almost as much time as choosing my outfit. Two deliveries from Sweaty Betty and I think I have the gear sorted, so I am testing out a couple of different makeup combos while training for the next few days…

I have already started smothering on St Tropez Every Day body lotion to brighten up my grey limbs. I have some Bare Escencuals mineral wholesale makeup in stock and I think a little of that as foundation might just be perfect. It looks really natural, hides imperfections brilliantly and will not melt. Eyelash extensions might be overdoing it so am trying out a variety of coloured mascaras (Clarins and Lancome, both waterproof). I don’t see how I can get away with much more than that without looking like a clown.

Going Nude For Spring Season

Nude lipstick that is girls – I really do not think that the world is ready to see my bare bits. I certainly will never be posing in my underwear!

The hunt for the perfect nude lipstick still alludes me, although there is a new nude by MAC that I am hopeful about. It is called MAC Creme d”Nude Lipstick and it should be in store now. There are some pictures here. It makes me go all Lady GaGa but I will report back when I have tried it out.

Now that the weather is improving, thoughts of spring/summer are becoming more urgent. It is the time of year when I always get that OMG can I ever make my body presentable in time for summer panic. The magazines are full of “Ten Steps To Beach Ready Legs” features and it just might be time to get ready to ditch the opaques.

With that in mind, my prediction about sales of self tanning products picking up this time of year has already proved true, and new from St Tropez is the Wash Off range which delivers an instant glow. It comes in mousse, facial lotion, and body lotion for instant colour without the commitment.

Okay, so I know you have heard it all before, but the two main beauty miracle treatments are free – yep, sleep and water. I mean, if you could buy a drink that could help you look ten years younger, lose weight, brighten your skin and give you loads of energy, how much would you be prepared to pay? Hey, we would all be queuing up like sheep to part with wads of cash in the name of beauty.

I prefer sleep to water but as a beauty commodity it is equally priceless. The benefits of getting enough sleep include greater mental agility, improved physical appearance, weight loss, better and brighter skin, and a reduction in stress levels (more here).

The proof is in the pudding as they say. I remember going through a messy breakup not that many years ago. I was so sad and my life was in such turmoil that for weeks all I could do was go straight to bed every day after work. I had no interest in men during that time, but the irony was that I never looked better! I lost loads of weight, for the first time in ages I had no dark circles, and my skin looked fantastic. Of course, once my heart had mended it all went out the window in favour of party central.

There are different schools of wisdom about how much sleep is enough, but I think in the world we live in we could all do with a little more every now and then. Life before lip gloss is probably something that some of you are too young to remember. When Lancome Juicy Tubes were first released, they were a cosmetics sensation. Each new limited edition was eagerly awaited. Like any big hit, Juicy Tubes became a much copied phenomenon and now lip gloss in all colours and flavours can be found to suit every age and budget. There are a few wholesale makeup suppliers based in the UK but they mostly stock the low or medium range brands, not the big names like MAC, Benefit or Bobbi Brown etc. So if you are looking for the type of cosmetics that you find on market stalls or that you want to sell cheaply at car boot sales or flea markets then you can easily find those yourself through a quick search on Google.

Cheap Slap is aimed primarily towards people looking for wholesale beauty supplies for the high end brands like those mentioned above and also other big names that you would usually find in department stores. By that I mean names like Estee Lauder, Clarins, Chanel, Origins, Smashbox and so on. My favourite health, fitness and beauty website has to be VictoriaHealth.com. I yearn for so many cosmetics and body products from there and am slowly but surely working my way through a rather long wishlist. It is a UK based site but it has lots of US products and in fact loads of other great finds from all over the globe.

The company do not sell wholesale makeup, nor is it full of the same famous brand names that are so common on most other cosmetics related sites. I am not knocking the likes of HQ Hair and Look Fantastic, but those type of beauty sites are becoming more and more copied and are full of the same products. In contrast, Victoria Health is a treasure trove of new or not widely known, innovative, and often ground breaking, health aids, supplements, beauty and makeup products, balms and tonics, lotions and potions, and generally all round nurturing stuff for the mind, body and soul.

The site has recently had a design revamp bringing it bang up to date – previously it was a lot more fuddy duddy looking and could have been easily dismissed as a boring online health supplement store. Even so, when you arrive at the home page there are a lot of items that will not be familiar or that most people will not have heard of, so it is worth checking out the newsletter to start with.

The lady who runs the site, Gill, describes the products with so much passion and conviction that when you read it you will understand why I want everything. Gill, by the way, I originally thought was a thirty something girl about town until I learned that she is nearly 70. She has lots of insider Hollywood celebrity beauty secrets and her lust for life is catching. I definitely want some of what she is having!

Please, do yourself a favour and just check it out. There’s absolutely nothing in it for me. I just want to spread the word.

Wholesale makeup by benefit is one of the most sought after brands by cosmetics sellers and unfortunately, like MAC makeup, it is also one of the most widely counterfeited brands.

If you look at the main Chinese sites like TradeTang, DHGate and qWholesale that appear when you do a search on google for wholesale benefit makeup, you will find too good to be true offers like benefit bad gal mascara for less than $2. I have written extensively about those sites before – honestly please do not even go there, that stuff is all fake, it is rubbish and you are being ripped off. If you buy from sites like those and then try to resell these products all I can say is you really must be looking for trouble.

At the end of the day I am not a big fan of always going after the big brands like MAC and benefit, because authentic cosmetics stock from those brands is scarce and very in demand, which means that the wholesale price is higher. Even so, that’s not to say that good deals don’t come along from time to time, of course they do, and they always get snapped up very quickly.

Anyway, if you really have your heart set on sourcing genuine benefit wholesale beauty items then always use a trusted supplier. There are only a handful of true high end cosmetics and beauty products suppliers and most do not advertise (because they don’t need to).

That means you could either end up making a loss or be left with stock that you may struggle to sell until next year.

To be a successful cosmetics and beauty products seller you should always be thinking ahead to stay one step ahead of the pack. As well as tanning products, gift with purchase (GWP) sizes also do really well in spring/summer if you market them as travel sizes as they are great for bringing on holiday. Perfume and gift sets are the perennial favourites for Christmas, and you should start thinking about your Christmas stock no later than August/September. Skincare sells well all year round as do slimming products. Hint – perfume and gift sets sell well for Mothers Day too!
